Monique DiGiorgio, Table to Farm Compost (Durango, CO)
Monique has been an environmental activist speaking on behalf of the planet since she was 13 years old. A journey that involved starting the environmental club in high school to a career in wildlife and lands conservation has brought her around the world and then back again to the place she loves and calls home -- the Southwest. Monique began her career as a field ornithologist and then moved into the non-profit world and found she had a proclivity for building small organizations from the ground up. Monique is currently the Director of Local First, a non-profit organization supporting local, independent businesses in La Plata County. She is also co-owner of Table to Farm Compost, Durango's only curbside compost service. As climate activists, Table to Farm Compost is dedicated to reducing waste and recycling organics into high quality compost and artisan soil to support local self-reliance in the four corners region. Monique holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Notre Dame and brings a science-based perspective to her work.
David Fridland, Eco-Products, PBC (Boulder, CO)
David is the Sustainability Manager for Eco-Products, PBC, the leading compostable foodservice packaging company in the industry. He works closely with composters across the country, and specifically the Colorado Composting council and the community that it represents. He is most interested in how Recycle Colorado will navigate bringing compostable and recyclable materials generators, and material processors together in the coming years to collaborate on a system that benefits all parties and leads to the Zero Waste future that we are all striving for.
David has been involved with Recycle Colorado for almost 8 years, serving in a variety of capacities including on the Product Stewardship Council, the Policy Committee as the National business sector representative, the Compost Council, and for the last year as a board member.
David received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder and his masters degree in Public Policy from the University of Denver, where he wrote his final thesis on electronics recycling in Colorado. Prior to his work at Eco-Products, he spent a number of years working on community campaigns and Zero Waste events at Eco-Cycle.
Adam Hill, Direct Polymers (Denver, CO)
I am the founder partner and co-owner of Direct Polymers. Direct Polymers is a Denver-based plastics recycling facility specializing in post-industrial and post-consumer plastics processing and compounding. I have fourteen years of experience in operating plastics recycling facilities throughout the United States. I was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado and graduated from Smoky Hill High School in 2001, then went on to Duke University where I was a collegiate athlete and earned degrees in economics and political science. I am a business junkie and my biggest passion in life is engaging in entrepreneurial activities that are meaningful to me. Most of my time is spent growing and developing our business and hanging out with my wife, Raquel, and our two daughters, Taylor and Aubrey. I also love to play sports, read, and travel to remote areas with good food and white-sand beaches with my wife, Raquel. I hope to spend my later years splitting my time between traveling the world and developing charitable organizations.
Sarah B. Jones, Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. (Steamboat Springs, CO)
Sarah B. Jones, Director of Sustainability and Community Engagement, has more than 25 years of experience investigating, evaluating and presenting information about environmental issues. At Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation (SSRC), she oversees operational sustainability, works with local municipalities to advance climate action, and partners with local government agencies and nonprofits on the preservation of local natural resources. Before joining the team at SSRC, Jones was Executive Director of Yampa Valley Sustainability Council for 7 years. She has also worked as an environmental consultant, managing both the technical and administrative aspects of multi-site environmental clean-up programs. She received her B.A. in Biology, Environmental Studies from Colby College, and her M.S. in Geology, Environmental Geochemistry from University of Colorado, Boulder.
Charles Kamenides, City of Longmont (Longmont, CO)
Charles Kamenides is the Waste Services Manager for the City of Longmont Colorado Natural Resources Department. Charles oversees the city’s residential trash, recycling and compost collection service, recycling center, outreach and education programs, and overall program management.
Recent accomplishments have been the introduction of an opt-in curbside compost collection service, development and implementation of an enhanced pay-as-you-throw rate structure, and the introduction of an every-other-week trash collection option for Longmont residents. Charles was also instrumental in the design and construction of Longmont’s CNG fueling system in which methane gas from the city’s wastewater treatment plant is made into fuel for the solid waste collection vehicles. This program reduces the reliance on carbon fuels and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Charles is a member of Solid Waste Association of North America and currently chairs the Boulder County Resource Conservation Advisory Board, is the current Co-Vice President for Recycle Colorado and represents the City of Longmont in the DRCOG wasteshed workgroup.
Jessica Lally, City and County of Denver (Denver, CO)
Jessica believes in the power of collaboration and equitable decision making when tackling environmental issues. Her role as a Program Administrator for the City and County of Denver, Solid Waste Management Division, has provided insight into the world of government, public education, and solid waste operations. As a city employee, Jessica sees herself as a resource for Denver residents and is seeking opportunities to address regional issues in the recycling community.
After receiving the 2018 ‘Cara Russel’ Rising Star Award from Recycle Colorado, Jessica continued to expand recycling and compost programs in Denver by implementing new technologies and innovative outreach techniques. In her current role, she is spearheading an effort to modernize the Solid Waste customer experience to provide all users with real-time and cloud-based account management by optimizing internal operations. This combined with new and improved analytics enhances quality of service while working within the current budgetary constraints.
Jessica is inspired by the tangible impact recycling can have in Colorado’s diverse communities and feels empowered to grow the state’s circular economy. Outside of the “home-office,” Jessica is excited by fancy cakes, bike rides, and dinner parties – always open to new recipe suggestions.
Neil Noble, Republic Services (Commerce City, CO)
