The CDPHE Air Pollution Control Division is starting public meetings focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from municipal solid waste landfills. These landfills are significant sources of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Addressing emissions from municipal solid waste landfills will help Colorado achieve its ambitious climate goals.

 Denver International Airport’s (DEN) “Zero Waste Valet” program has diverted 69.2 tons of material from the landfill into compost and recycling in its first six months of operation. The pilot program, which launched in June, 2024, has achieved an average waste diversion rate of 71% – or the rate at which trash is kept out of the landfill - three times higher than the airport's facility-wide diversion rate.

The Zero Waste Valet Associate is responsible for transporting recyclables, compostables and trash for concessions on the B concourse, and educating their staff about best practices in waste diversion. The ZWV Associate will also be responsible for communicating with the Program Manager, Program Director and DEN Airport Sustainability team about how concessions are performing, rates of contamination, and ideas for improvement and/or increased efficiencies for the program. ZWV Associates will weigh each waste stream from each concession and record that weight, along with any instances of contamination, using a specially designed software. This data will be used by Scraps and DEN to report on the impact of the pilot program and to generate progress reports for the concessions themselves. After weights are recorded, ZWV Associates will bring the waste to the proper disposal area (chute, compactor, toter, etc) throughout the concourse.

The High Country Conservation Center (HC3) is a community non-profit organization with a mission to promote
practical solutions for resource conservation and waste reduction in Summit County, Colorado. Programs include
recycling and composting, climate action, energy conservation, water conservation and sustainable food
production. HC3 engages residents, visitors, and businesses in protecting our local environment.

The Colorado Circular Communities (C3) Enterprise is a new statewide program dedicated to supporting Colorado’s communities, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and institutions of higher learning with resources to advance the state’s transition to a circular economy. The C3 Enterprise replaced the Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity (RREO) program and the Front Range Waste Diversion (FRWD) program on July 1, 2024 and includes financial and technical assistance to enhance circularity across the state.

AI-driven sortation systems provider AMP and hauler Waste Connections are partnering to build a new MRF in Colorado, slated to open in early 2026.

In June 2022, Colorado passed HB22-1355, a law requiring producers of packaging to create a producer responsibility program to manage packaging in the State. Recognizing that used petroleum and petroleum related products and packaging are better managed independently of other packaging materials, the Lubricant Packaging Management Association 'LPMA' (a national non-profit) powered by Interchange 360 was created in 2024. 

The intention of Interchange 360 is to develop a program in accordance with HB22-1355. As part of program development, Interchange 360 is seeking baseline data on the current state of end-of-life management for used motor oil and used motor oil packaging in Colorado.  

Within a designated market, a Sales Representative - Recycling is responsible for identifying leads, proactively prospecting and selling recycling services to commercial, Industrial and recycling customers to drive volume of recyclable materials into Republic Services’ Recycling Centers to meet and exceed the Company’s target profitable growth and contribute to the Company’s environmental goals.

January 18th - Tour of Mile High Workshop
The Mile High WorkShop's (MHW), repurposing project, focuses on diverting discarded marketing materials by upcycling retired billboards, used vinyl banners, and other synthetic materials. This process not only contributes to a more sustainable end market but also generates meaningful employment opportunities for individuals facing barriers due to addictions, homelessness, and incarceration. MHW's participants undergo paid on-the-job training, acquiring skills in production and industrial sewing that opens doors to long-term employment.
