The Journey Toward Flexible Plastic Packaging Recovery

Flexible plastic packaging (FPP) – plastic films, wraps, bags, and pouches – is one of the fastest growing consumer packaging formats with approximately 12 billion pounds consumed annually in the U.S. FPP is used to protect products, increase shelf life, and reduce shipping damage, but, it has been a challenge to recycle.

A recent research pilot - sponsored through a co-investment from manufacturers, brands, and trade associations via Materials Recovery for the Future (MRFF) - confirmed that FPP can be sorted and recycled at material recovery facilities (MRFs) using adjustments and upgrades to existing sorting technologies. Not only is the FPP sorted into the new rFlex bale, the pilot indicated that sorting FPP achieved cleaner/higher quality paper bales.

Join us to learn more about why the sponsors and REMADE came together to research FPP recovery, recent MRF test results from ongoing RRS monitoring, FPP sorting value for the MRF, rFlex end markets, as well as the choices brand owners have for packaging and why flexible packaging recycling is important to their business growth and corporate commitments.
