Scholarships benefit students from Colorado mountains to plains

Students, from all elevations of Colorado, competed for just three conference scholarships awarded by Recycle Colorado this year. The recipients are from the University of Northern Colorado, University of Colorado Denver, and Western Colorado University. At the virtual Summit for Recycling conference, students will learn about career opportunities in the recycling, materials management and sustainability fields, while connecting with private businesses, local government, nonprofits, and university representatives.

“The students are generally well versed in environmental issues and some have direct experience working with waste management on campus or with city composting programs,” said Amy Randell, associate executive director for Recycle Colorado. “The conference is an excellent opportunity for individuals to make some key connections within our industry and learn more about how all the systems work together.”

In addition to the scholarships, recipients were matched with a mentor that sits on Recycle Colorado’s Board of Directors and works within the materials management industry. Mentors this year include David Fridland (Eco-Products, PBC), Jessica Lally (City and County of Denver), and Brandy Moe (PaintCare).

The scholarship winners will attend Recycle Colorado’s virtual Summit for Recycling conference, which will bring together experts to share why and how to effectively invest in and further commit to recycling and circularity in Colorado. The agenda includes educational sessions, a virtual exhibit hall, special guest appearances and interactive ‘meet & greets’.

Top event supporters include Ball Corporation, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, MolsonCoors Beverage Company, Momentum Recycling, Swire Coca-Cola, and Waste-Not Recycling.
