Students’ commitment to recycling is alive and well, as shown by their creative and informative artwork. Today, Recycle Colorado announced the winners of its 14th annual poster contest. Every year, students in kindergarten through 12th grade take up their pencils, markers and computers to showcase their artistic talent and recycling know-how.
This year’s grand-prize winner, Joshua Cho from Joyce Art Studio in Highlands Ranch, depicted recycling’s connection to community and environment along the path materials take to becoming new objects again. More than 50 students participated in the contest.
The posters were grouped into five grade categories, and a first- and second-place winner were awarded in each category. Thanks to our sponsors, Molson Coors Beverage Company, Swire Coca-Cola, Ball Corporation, Momentum Recycling, and Waste-Not Recycling, one grand-prize winner and the student’s school were awarded with a prize.
“The art we've seen goes beyond the impressive visuals and expands into a beautiful showcase of the important journey your recyclable materials take to jump into the welcoming arms of the businesses who need them,” said Recycle Colorado Executive Director Kristin Kim. “I am thrilled to see this knowledge be understood at even the youngest of grades. Thank you to all the students, families, teachers, and schools for their support and heart - keep spreading that talent!”
More and more of today's products are being manufactured with recycled content. Common household items that contain recycled materials include paper towels, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles. The glass bottle that you place in your recycling bin can be recycled into a new glass bottle, over and over again, right here in Colorado.
